[The Canyon Gateway, Arizona]
Sayre was born in Missouri, U.S.A., and painted many landscapes of mountains and lakes. 1923 work [The Canyon Gateway, Arizona] depicts the Canyon Gateway and people riding horses. The colors of the mountains and the sky are beautiful and evoke the atmosphere of the landscape.

The West Wing houses traditional paintings* and sculptures dating back to the early 20th century, while the East Wing houses contemporary art. Admission has been free since its opening, based on founder Andrew Mellon's concept of making the museum open to all.
