Studied painting under Maruyama Okyo and distinguished himself early on with his unique style. He learned from Okyo's precise and compositional sketches, and left behind a wide variety of works with an uninhibited, bold style and eccentric ideas. His representative fences are "Yamamba" and "Flower, Bird, and Fish. |

長沢芦雪 江戸時代・天明6年（1786） 無量寺蔵
長沢芦雪（ながさわ ろせつ）
宝暦4〜寛政11年（1754〜1799）、京都生まれ。円山応挙に絵を学び早くから個性的表現で頭角を現す。師にかわって和歌山の諸寺での事業を行ったのが大きな転機となり、応挙の精緻で構成的な写生に学びながら、奔放で大胆な作風、奇抜な構想をもって多彩な作品を残した。代表柵は『山姥図』『花鳥游魚図巻』。
