*Colotype postcard [Five Seasonal Subjects: Summer Harvest, Goldfish] by Obara Furumura*.
Obara Furumura, Showa era (1920s), Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

*What is collotype*?
While offset printing, a common printing method, expresses colors and shading with a density of small dots, collotype expresses them with continuous gradation, allowing the use of fine detail that is more realistic, like that of a photograph.

Ohara Koson
Born in Ishikawa Prefecture between 1877 and 1945. Studied under Suzuki Kason. He is said to have begun making woodblock prints for export at the suggestion of Fenollosa, and produced many flower-and-bird prints. His realistic works have been highly acclaimed overseas, and many of his works are in the collections of museums in Europe and the United States.
