While offset printing, a common printing method, expresses colors and shading with a density of small dots, collotype expresses them with continuous gradation, allowing for more realistic and precise detail, just like a photograph. Shinsui Ito Born in Tokyo between 1898 and 1972. He studied under Kaburaki Kiyokata and was active in Japanese-style painting, but later developed the new print movement with Hashiguchi Goyo and others, and left behind a series of paintings of beautiful women that were in the Ukiyo-e tradition but also incorporated a modern sensibility. His representative works include "Twelve New Beauties" and "Twelve New Beauties". |

Shinsui Ito
Born in Tokyo between 1898 and 1972. 明治31〜昭和47年(1898〜1972)、東京生まれ。鏑木清方に師事し日本画でも活躍したが、のち橋口五葉らと新版画運動を展開し、浮世絵の流れをくみながら現代的な感覚も取り入れた美人画を残した。代表作は『対鏡』『新美人十二姿』。
