Description
| Shigeo Yamauchi publishes a collection of his paintings spanning half a century and linking them to tomorrow. Studied under his grandfather Katsuzo Satomi, a painter, and went to France in the 1970s to study in Paris under Bernard Lorges. After returning to Japan, Western-style painter Shigeo Yamauchi has been actively showing his works in solo and group exhibitions, mainly in the realistic painting circles. [I couldn't have painted the same pictures as my grandfather. There were influences, but my grandfather painted modern paintings of the Showa era, while I had to establish modern paintings of the current era]. Thoroughly trained by Katsuzo Satomi and pushed by Lorge to open up a new world, he spent his days simply working on his paintings. The thoughtful arrangement of motifs and contrasts of colors are created in a last-ditch, time-consuming process, and although it takes a lot of time to complete a single piece, the work conveys the inevitability of this process. [Flowers, fruits, butterflies, super balls, baskets. Each motif is carefully and meticulously arranged and plays a role in the eternity of time. However, the painstakingly applied layers of colors convey a fragrant depth and accentuate the inherent charm of the colors. The clarity and depth of these colors, through well-thought-out color surface contrasts, create a new world of color, free from the inherent colors of reality.] Thus says Akishi Hijikata (Director of the Taro Okamoto Museum of Art, Kawasaki), who supervised this book. This book is a compilation of Shigeo Yamauchi's half-century of work, in which he reflects on the tension in his artwork. By looking at all of his works, from the past to his newest, he has come to face the act of painting anew. This book is only a passing point. It is truly a "collection of paintings for tomorrow. Through this book, we hope you will encounter the works of Shigeo Yamauchi, who continues to take up the challenge of painting even after he has passed his 70th birthday. This is a collection of the artist's best work. *Bilingual (English and Japanese) Author / Shigeo Yamauchi 245×260mm, 212 pages (152 illustrations) |
