Born in Kyoto between 1875 and 1949. She was a leading beauty painter in the Kyoto art world. In 1948, she became the first woman to be awarded the Order of Cultural Merit. 明治8〜昭和24年（1875〜1949）、京都生まれ。京都画壇を代表する美人画家として活躍した。京風俗や古典文学をモチーフに、気高くたおやかな女性を数多く描いた。1948年に女性初の文化勲章を受章。子の上村松篁、孫の上村淳之と三代にわたって日本画家である。
