Description
Written by Seiko Kansei A Phenomenological Analysis of the Narratives of the Persons Involved, Leading to the Recovery of Their Minds Abortion is often considered taboo even to talk about, but with the recent spread of ultrasound diagnosis and NIPT (prenatal genetic testing), there has been a lot of discussion from the medical and legal perspectives. On the other hand, in the clinical psychology field, it is difficult to say that psychological care for abortion survivors is more adequate than for those who have experienced miscarriage or stillbirth. This is because abortion is considered to be a "personal" and guilt-ridden event that is also a source of great conflict for the medical staff. In this book, we will explore what kind of psychological care is necessary and possible for abortion survivors, based on in-depth interviews and questionnaires. In the first of three parts, we will discuss perinatal loss, the history and current status of abortion, and prenatal diagnosis, as well as grief reactions and PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) that may be caused by the experience of perinatal loss. In the second section, research on abortion will be presented. Based on the results of interviews and questionnaires, the internal world of the abortion survivors will be described, and phenomenological analysis will be used to discuss the nature of the experience. In addition, the implementation of exchange meetings among the parties involved will also be discussed. The third part of the paper comprehensively examines how psychologists can be involved in the abortion process, taking into account its uniqueness. The column includes a report on a visit to a perinatal loss psychological care site in Sweden. This is almost the first book in Japan to analyze the detailed narratives of abortion survivors, and it is a book that clinical psychologists, doctors, midwives, nurses, and others can use in their practice. |
