Born in Edo, the second son of the Sakai family of the Himeji domain (1761-1828). He was proficient in various arts including painting, haikai, and waka. He studied Kano painting, sketch painting, ukiyoe, Tosa school, Maruyama school, and many other styles, but he was deeply devoted to Ogata Korin, who became the founder of the Edo Rimpa school. He was deeply devoted to Ogata Korin and became the founder of the Edo Rimpa school. He left delicate, elegant and lyrical works. His representative works are [Heavy Folding Screen Painting of Summer and Autumn Plants] and [Flower and Bird of the Four Seasons].
