Description
| *Miniature colored paper [National Treasure: Caricatures of Birds, Animals, and People (Sumo)]* Heian period, Lent by Kozanji temple. What is collotype*? While offset printing, a common printing method, expresses colors and shading with a density of small dots, collotype expresses them with continuous gradation, allowing for more realistic and precise detail, just like a photograph. * Works * National Treasure [Caricatures of birds, animals, and humans], Heian - Kamakura period, Lent by Kozan-ji This is a picture scroll consisting of four scrolls, A, B, C, and D. Scroll A is the first scroll, which depicts anthropomorphic figures. Scroll A is the most popular among the four scrolls, as it depicts anthropomorphic animals in a spontaneous manner. The author of the scroll is said to be the Toba priest Kakuyu (1053-1140), but there is no proof, and various theories exist. Recent research has revealed that the order of the paintings has been changed since the original. It is thought that this is because they were originally divided into two volumes and then joined together. Kozan-ji Temple Official Certification Our [Caricatures of Birds, Beasts, and Humans] series is commercialized with the permission of Kozanji Temple (Kyoto), the owner of this series.
