In the Showa period (1926-1989), radio programs centering on late-night broadcasts, such as "All Night Nippon," were extremely popular among young people. Late-night radio itself became a social phenomenon as a "late-night free zone," with the three major radio stations, Nippon Broadcasting System, Bunka Hoso, and TBS Radio, competing to be heard in the same time slot. When it was time to start a program, I would sit in front of the radio and listen to the program. Radio is a medium for one's own personal space, different from television.
