Description
Tokonameyaki was born in Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture at the end of the Heian Period and has a history of 1,000 years. The city of pottery is blessed with good quality clay and trade on a peninsula surrounded by the sea. Inheriting tradition, focusing on usability, and creating new works. We bring you pottery that is filled with the artist's thoughts. Handmade by Takahisa Hisada, a leading potter of Tokoname ware, Kagama*. The calm and deep rim complements the dishes. [About the process] Made using the stony clay of Tokoname. The pot is shaped by a craftsman's wheel. The process of filtering out the mud leaves a rough texture, which gives the surface grains and the glaze pools their characteristic shading. This pottery is made mainly from coarse-grained clay, known as domono. This vessel expresses the unique texture of Takahisa, who was born in Tokoname to a bonsai pot potter and also studied pottery making in Seto, and shows a bright turquoise glaze, which is rare for Tokoname ware. |
