His first literary book [How to Learn from My Student, Sota Fujii] won the grand prize in the literary category at the 30th Shogi Pen Club Awards. As a tournament pro, he also writes, appears on TV, gives lectures, and runs the Masataka Sugimoto Shogi Laboratory, where he trains younger players. His students include Sota Fujii 2-kan and Io Murota Women's 2-dan, as well as those who have gone on to study at the University of Tokyo and the Faculty of Medicine at national universities. |
