Born in 1922 as the eldest daughter of sculptor* Fumio Asakura, Setsu Asakura studied under Japanese-style painter Shinsui Ito from the age of 17, and demonstrated her talent at a young age by painting modern figures. While searching for new pictorial expressions, he produced a series of socially conscious works.
