Setsu Asakura (1922-2014) was an artist who started out as a painter and chose the world of stage design as his final field of expression. This book introduces Setsu Asakura's [past] work - including Japanese-style paintings, picture books, and illustrations - which have not been known until now.  

Born in 1922 as the eldest daughter of sculptor* Fumio Asakura, Setsu Asakura studied under Japanese-style painter Shinsui Ito from the age of 17, and demonstrated her talent at a young age by painting modern figures. While searching for new pictorial expressions, he produced a series of socially conscious works. From the mid-1960s onward, he shifted his focus to stage design, using new materials and ideas to create stage designs that moved many people.

Born in Tokyo as the eldest daughter of sculptor Fumio Asakura, she studied under Japanese-style painter Shinsui Ito at the age of 17 and won the Uemura Shoen Prize in 1953 for her work "The Working Man". In the late 1960s, he shifted the focus of his activities from painting to stage design;
While working on illustrations for novels [Suna no kiki] and picture books [Yuki-onna] and [Tatsunoko-taro], he also participated in the avant-garde art movement as a stage designer, working in a wide range of genres from small theater plays to commercial theater, kabuki, and opera, creating over 1,600 stage productions.
