The first full-scale retrospective book of Setsu Asakura; Setsu Asakura (1922-2014) was an artist who started out as a painter and chose the world of stage design as his final field of expression. This book introduces Setsu Asakura's [past] work - including Japanese-style paintings, picture books, and illustrations - which have not been known until now. Born in 1922 as the eldest daughter of sculptor* Fumio Asakura, Setsu Asakura studied under Japanese-style painter Shinsui Ito from the age of 17, and demonstrated her talent at a young age by painting modern figures. While searching for new pictorial expressions, he produced a series of socially conscious works.
