Description
| We modeled a famous Ralph Lauren item (Big Shirts) that was produced in the 90's, and worked on the pattern from scratch. This Ralph's masterpiece was a model designed to be worn larger than the regular size sold at the time, and was never sold in Japan. Even now, after a lapse of time, it is still considered a rare and valuable model that is hard to find in the used clothing market due to its scarce quantity. However, Audience has succeeded in changing the silhouette by changing the point of view, although we have used it as a modeling (reference). First, we focused on the A-line box silhouette and calculated the size balance to come up with a value. However, if we had gone that far, we would have just modeled Ralph Lauren/Big Shirts and modified the size so that it would be easier to wear. Then, what did we mean by changing the point of view? The general shirt pattern is set up so that the shoulders are longer in the front, shorter in the back, and the sleeves swing forward. It's a three-dimensional silhouette that matches the human body structure. However, the box-A-line silhouette has a generous sizing, so if the same general shoulder pattern is adopted, the excess will be drawn in the front, wrinkles will form around the sleeve cuffs, and the shirt will look unrefined... In order to solve this problem, we changed our point of view and created a unique new pattern. In short, shirts are designed to follow the lines of the body beautifully, but this new pattern is designed to eliminate excess wrinkles at the front and back of the sleeves, rather than in the front, so as to avoid excessive excess. If I were to add a little more, it would be easier to understand if I were to say that the sleeves are made to look like the gardening coats that have exploded in popularity at Audience. This means that there are no extra wrinkles in the front, which creates a beautiful A-line when you look around 360° around the body. As a side note, when we first asked the president of the shirt factory for this new pattern... [This pattern is impossible for shirts!] I heard that he said, "This pattern is impossible for a shirt! We explained our intentions to him and he was able to create it with our understanding. We were able to produce a shirt that overturned the concept of a shirt to such an extent. The silhouette is loose, but there are no unnecessary wrinkles around the shoulders, and it is easy to wear. [The motif of this shirt is based on the polo collar shirt.] Button-down shirts are an eternal staple of the American classic. This button-down shirt is made in the image of vintage [Brooks Brothers]. Button-down shirts are said to have been developed for polo matches to prevent the collar from being blown up by the wind and interfering with play, and are also known as polo collar shirts. The length of the collar tip and the angle of the collar are calculated so that the shape of the collar expands lightly when it is fastened with a collar button. The sewing is also made with the utmost care... The back side is finished beautifully with [fold-down stitching] that is full of craftsmanship. By making the size of the collar small, the balance with the face is considered and a clear impression can be given. The color of the oxford fabric was also sensitively chosen. We chose off-white, which is a little more compatible with skin tone, instead of fluorescent white. The Oxford button-down shirt is a long-selling item, not only as a shirt, but also in the entire clothing category. |

このラルフの名品は当時販売されていたレギュラーサイズよりも、大きめに着ることを前提にしたモデルで、日本では販売されることもなく、時が経った今でも、古着市場で数量も乏しく手に入りづらい希少価値の高いモデルとされています。
但、Audienceでは、モデリング（参考）にはしましたが、着眼点を変えることで、シルエットを変えることに成功しました。
まずは、AラインのBOXシルエットを重点におき、サイズバランスを計算して数値を出しました。
ただそこまでだと、ラルフローレン/Big Shirtsをもモデリングし、サイズ感を着易いように修正しただけになってしまいます。
では、着眼点を変えるとはどういうことだったのか、それは肩のパターンを変えたことです。
一般的なシャツのパターンは、肩山の位置を前が長く、後ろが短く、袖が前に振れるよう設定されているのです。
人体構造に合わせた立体的なシルエットになってるんですね。
しかし、今回このBOX-Aラインシルエットでは、ゆとりのあるサイジングな為、同様の一般的な肩のパターンを採用してしまうと、前身頃に余計な余りが寄せられてしまい、袖ぐり周りにシワができ、野暮ったさが出てしまいます...
そこを解消するために、着眼点を変えて、生まれたのが、今回独自の新パターン。
要は身体のラインを綺麗に沿うように設計されているのがシャツなのですが、この新パターンは余計な余りを寄せないよう、余計なシワは前には生まれず、袖の前後で解消されるようなイメージです。
もう少し付け加えると、Audienceで爆発的に人気となったガーデニングコートのような袖付けになっていると言うと伝わりやすいでしょうか。
前身頃に余計なシワが出ないので、360°ぐるっと見渡した時に、綺麗なAラインを生んでくれる訳です。
余談ですが、最初に、この新パターン、シャツ専用工場の社長さんに依頼した時は…「こんなパターン、シャツではあり得ない!!」と言われたそうで…。意図をしっかりと説明し、理解した中で作成して頂けました。それくらいにシャツの概念を覆してまで生産に至ったわけです。
シルエットはゆったりですが、、肩回りなどに余計なシワが生まれず、すんなり着易いシルエットとなっております。
【ポロカラーシャツをモチーフに】
ボタンダウンシャツは、アメリカンクラシックの永遠の定番アイテム。
このボタンダウンシャツは、ヴィンテージ《Brooks Brothers(ブルックスブラザーズ）をイメージして作っています。
ボタンダウンシャツは、風で衿があおられてプレーの邪魔にならないよう、ポロ競技用に開発した商品と言われ、別名ポロカラーシャツとも呼ばれてるそうです。
衿の釦で留めるときに生まれる、衿の形が軽く膨らむように仕上る為に、衿先の長さ、衿の角度など計算されたものなっております。
縫製にもこだわりが...クラフツマンシップ溢れる『折り伏せ縫い』で裏側は綺麗に仕上がっております。
衿のサイズも小ぶりにすることにより、顔とのバランスを考慮し、スッキリと印象を与えることが出来ます。
オックスフォードの生地のカラーもセンシティブに選びました。
白も蛍光色の強い白ではなく、すこし肌の色との相性の良いオフホワイトを選択。
シャツとしてだけでなく、洋服全体のカテゴリーの中でも、ロングセラーアイテムというべき存在のオックスフォードボタンダウンシャツ。
