Ojiya Chijimi used in this product is a top quality hemp fabric made from ramie that originated in Ojiya City, Niigata Prefecture, and has a history of being made by further improving the technology of Echigo Kamifu in the mid-Edo period. Ojiya Shrink is said to have been produced at a rate of 230,000 pieces per year during the Edo period, and was a popular and coveted kimono of the time. It is also highly regarded internationally, having been registered as a UNESCO World Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2009. |
