Description
Hasami Pottery Dyeing using indigo as a dye is called aizome. The dye for indigo dyeing is made by fermenting indigo dye. Aitama (indigo balls) are also often used. As the name suggests, aizome can be dyed with indigo dye, and it also has the excellent feature that the color does not fade easily. Aizome was widely used in Japan during the Edo period (1603-1867).
