ヌバックレザーとは ヌバックとは、牛革をサンドペーパーなどで一つずつ丁寧に毛羽立たせた、「起毛革」と呼ばれる革のことを指します。
「起毛革」はヌバック以外にも
スエード(子牛、羊・ヤギ革（裏）で毛足は長め)
ベロア(牛革（裏）で毛足はスエードよりも長め)

などがあります。
ヌバックレザーは、毛羽立たせてはいるものの、毛足が短いので手で触れると柔らかいうえしっとりとしています。
マットな質感で生地も厚みがあるため、落ち着いた上品さがあります。
ほかの皮革製品と同じように、使い込むほど色が濃くなり光沢も生まれるなど味が出ます。
ヌバックは革の表側（銀面）にヤスリをかけて毛羽立たせています。
そのため、革の裏側（床面）を加工するスエードに比べ、表側を加工するヌバックの方が丈夫です。
十分な厚みがあるため耐久性が高いからです。
