| [Material: German beech] The beech tree is called the queen of the forest for its majestic and beautiful appearance. They shed many leaves and acorns to make the ground soft and fluffy, and store water to create a rich ecosystem. In the past, beech forests covered two-thirds of Germany's land, but since it takes more than 100 years for beech trees to grow to log size, they have been replaced by more productive coniferous trees, which now cover only 5% of the country. In recent years, with the increase in environmental awareness, planned forestry has been carried out, and a certain amount of beech wood is used for high-end Scandinavian furniture and other rare materials, taking advantage of its beautiful grain, bendability, and resistance to breakage. Beech wood is not only slow-growing but also troublesome and time-consuming to process. It is hard and has a high water content, which makes it prone to warping if it is not dried thoroughly. Gastrock spends as much as three years drying the lumber in its own facilities before processing. After the drying process, the beech wood becomes resilient and unbreakable, and is of the highest quality. [Antique finish by hand] Gastrock walking sticks have an antique look even when new. ブナの樹はその雄大で美しい姿から森の女王と呼ばれます。多くの葉とどんぐりを落としてフカフカの大地を作り、水を貯えて豊な生態系を作り出します。かつてドイツ国土の3分の2がブナの森でしたがブナの木は丸太のサイズに成長するまで100年以上かかる為、生産性の高い針葉樹に植え替えられ現在では国土のわずか5％にまで減少してしまいました。近年、環境意識の高まりにより計画林業が行われ、美しい木目と曲げやすく折れにくい特性を生かして一定数が高級北欧家具などに使われる希少素材です。ブナ材は成長が遅いだけでなく加工にも手間のかかる厄介な素材でもあります。堅い上に水分量が多い為しっかりと乾燥させないと反りやすい性質を持ちます。ガストロック社では加工する前の材木を何と3年もの歳月かけ自社施設にてしっかりと乾燥させます。万全の乾燥処理を経たブナ材は弾力があって折れにくい最高品質へと生まれ変わります。
【手作業によるアンティーク仕上げ】
ガストロックのステッキは新品の状態でも何処かアンティークな雰囲気を漂わせます。単一の色のベタ塗りでは無く、同じ色でも部位によって淡く濃く色の変化がある事に気づきます。バーナーと焼きゴテにより木肌を焦がす事により生まれるこの技法はアンティーク仕上げと呼ばれ職人の感性に委ねられます。元々の木目を生かしながら奥行のある唯一無二の1本がこうして生まれるのです。

本品は3本のクロムリングを埋め込んだ斬新なデザイン。アンチーク仕上げが銀色のリングを強烈に引き立てます。
