Description
| Each piece is carefully crafted by artisans in Aizu Wakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture, famous for its historical stage and lacquerware production area. Lacquerware made of natural wood has a longer history than ceramics. The main feature of lacquerware made of natural wood is that it is lighter and thinner than ceramics, yet it does not easily transfer heat to the hand even when hot. The natural wood for the wood base is made from carefully selected corks (sen) from Hokkaido, grown in the severe cold. The shape gives the impression of gently enveloping food with its gently rising curved beauty. With a diameter of approximately 7.5" and a good depth, it has a use and size appropriate for being called versatile and can be used not only for Japanese cuisine but also for Western and Chinese dishes. The traditional lacquered color not only enhances the taste and warmth of the food, but also allows you to enjoy the unique aging process of the lacquerware, which becomes more colorful as it is used. The bottom of the bowl is engraved with a motif of the Japanese greeting "Itadakimasu" or "Gochisosama" before and after a meal to show appreciation for the ingredients and the person who prepared the food. |
