The gathers are not placed all the way around the waist, but are designed to mark the waist slightly so that the silhouette does not look lumpy. It is a two-way design that can be worn like a one-piece if the opening is in the back, or like a robe or a haori if the opening is in the front. The cuffs are shirred with elastic, and the walnut buttons are also a point of attention.
