Description
[Formal dress design of European aristocracy]. In medieval Europe, the combination of silver and black shafts was considered the most formal, and this style was preferred for ceremonies and parties where formal wear was required. Today, there are few people who care about such old customs, but it is still the most dressy style. The Gastrock Company, which has been in business for 150 years, has retained the tradition with a narrow grip, thin shaft, and soft Rococo style decorations on the grip. It is suitable for both men and women, and can be used for both formal and casual occasions. [Shaft machined from German beech] The beech tree, known in Europe as the queen of the forest because of its majestic and beautiful appearance, is known for its virgin forest in the World Heritage Site Shirakami Sanchi (Mountains of Shirakami). In the past, beech forests covered two-thirds of Germany's land, but since it takes more than 100 years for beech trees to grow to the size of logs, they have been replaced by more productive coniferous trees, which now cover only 5% of the country. In recent years, with the increase of environmental awareness in Germany, planned forestry has been implemented, and a certain amount of beech wood is used for high-end Scandinavian furniture, taking advantage of its beautiful grain and resistance to breakage. Beech wood is not only slow-growing but also troublesome and time-consuming to process. It is hard and has a high water content, which makes it prone to warping if not dried thoroughly. Gastrock spends as much as three years drying the lumber in its own facilities before processing. After the drying process, the beech wood becomes resilient and unbreakable, and is of the highest quality. [Gastrock, Germany] Founded in 1868, Gastrock GmbH has been making traditional walking sticks for a century and a half in the Weratal region of central Germany, the birthplace of the cane craftsman. More than 30 processes are carried out by hand to complete a single cane, just as in the past. |
