Description
| Fugen Bosatsu is considered to be a bodhisattva of action, appearing in all kinds of places to preach his vast and limitless teachings and save sentient beings. He also has the benefit of prolonging life, and as the Buddha who saves women, he was especially worshipped by court ladies. He is usually seated in the full lotus position on a white elephant with six tusks, which represents the six paramitas (the six paramitas of the Buddha), and holds his palms together. The model statue is the Suwa-daimyojin Gohonchi Fugen Bosatsu in the collection of Bukuho-Saoryuji Temple in Nagano Prefecture. It was originally enshrined at the Jinguji Temple of Suwa Shrine as the Honji-butsu of Suwa-daimyojin, and was transferred to Bukuho-Shaoryu-ji when the Shinto and Buddhist Laws were enacted in the first year of Meiji. In the fall of 2022, the Suwa Shinbutsu Project held in the Suwa area commemorated the first meeting of God and Buddha in 150 years, and faithfully recreated this statue, a symbol of the belief in God and Buddha that has taken root in this area since ancient times, in palm-sized form. |

モデル像は長野県 佛法紹隆寺が所蔵する諏訪大明神御本地 普賢菩薩。もとは諏訪大明神の本地仏として諏訪上社神宮寺に祀られていたもので、明治元年に神仏判然令が出された際に佛法紹隆寺へと移管されました。
2022年秋、諏訪エリアで開催された「諏訪神仏プロジェクト」により、150年ぶりに神と仏が出会ったことを記念し、当地に古くから根付く神仏信仰の象徴とも言えるこの尊像を手のひらサイズで忠実に再現しました。
