Description
When you hear that there is only one kind of human being on the earth today, Homo sapiens, you may think, "Of course there is. But that's because there are no other kinds of human beings on the planet. [However, this is not the case when you look at the history of mankind. Just as there are wolves and jackals among the canine species, there were once other species of humans who were not homo sapiens, but who can still be considered our friends. It was only a few tens of thousands of years ago that Homo sapiens became the only homo sapiens we know today. Before that time, other species of humans, such as Neanderthals and Homo floresiensis, lived together on the earth. Even further back, humans who are not of the genus Homo (but may be related to it), such as Ardipithecus and Australopithecus, also lived on the earth. We are not often aware of this fact, perhaps because the human race is now limited to Homo sapiens. In the meantime, humans began to walk upright on two legs, to have smaller canine teeth, to leave the forest to give birth to many children, to eat meat to enlarge the brain, to make stone tools, and to run long distances in search of food. After such a long and persistent evolution, they finally left the African continent where they had lived for millions of years. This book introduces, with many pictures and photos, the 7 million years from the time humans separated from chimpanzees in evolution to the appearance and disappearance of more than 20 species of humans, and finally to the appearance of Homo*sapiens. |
