Description
Paper mache tray. Mithila paintings are hand painted. *What is Mithila? Mithila is a craft from the Mithila region straddling the border between Nepal and India. Originally painted as wall paintings, it is now widely known as a representative craft of India and Nepal, painted on cloth or paper. They are painted using fingers, thin toothpick-like sticks, or pen nibs. Nepalese Mithila is characterized by bright colors and strong, thick lines, while Indian Mithila is characterized by the delicacy of the patterns created with fine lines. The motifs of the paintings are diverse, ranging from those representing religious beliefs, such as deities, to heartwarming scenes of everyday life. The way of expression differs depending on the artist, and the variety of painting styles is one of the charms of Indian mithila. |
