〜What is "Shirayuki" cherry? This variety was cultivated on the banks of the Arakawa River in Ekita Village (now Adachi-ku, Tokyo), Tokyo Prefecture. This cherry tree was not listed in the ledger when 78 varieties were planted on the Arakawa bank in 1886, but was discovered and named by Gaku Miyoshi on April 14, 1909. 東京府江北村(現・東京都足立区)の荒川堤で栽培されていた品種です。この桜は1886年に78品種が荒川堤に植えられたときの台帳にはなく、1909年4月14日に三好学が発見し名付けたものです。小花柄や花柄に毛があり、また円形で大きな苞があることが特徴です。
