Description
What is Ohodeidios? An ojodedios (eye of God) is an amulet made by weaving threads into a diamond shape on a cross. They are often found in Central and South America, where shamanism (belief in spirits) remains strong, and are famous among the Wichole people of Mexico and the Shipipo people of Peru. It is also found among the Pueblo Indians of North America. The diamond-shaped pattern is believed to represent the eye of God and is used as a talisman to ward off evil or protect oneself. The Wichole call it a "sikri," and when a child is born, the father weaves the center eye as a protective charm for the child, and the eyes are added every year until the child is five years old, completing a sikri. |
