| *Shigaraki, Seto, Tokoname, Echizen, Tanba, and Bizen are the six oldest kilns in Japan, and were inscribed on the list of Japanese Heritage in 2017. Shigaraki ware is one of these, and is loved by many people for its traditional techniques and craftsmen's wisdom that produce a gentle texture with the unique flavor of Shigaraki clay and the warm fire color woven by the flames. *The history of Shigaraki raccoon dog figurines is relatively short, and the first one is said to have been made by Tetsuzo Fujiwara, a potter, in the Meiji period. *Raccoon dogs are appreciated as good luck charms, and are often placed in front of the eaves of stores as a fashionable way to promote business, since raccoon dogs are associated with "overtaking others. ★狸は縁起物と喜ばれ、狸が「他を抜く」に通じることから商売繁盛と洒落て店の軒先に置かれることが多い。信楽八相縁起に因んで福福とした狸が編み笠を被り少し首をかしげながら右手に徳利、左手に通帳を持って突っ立ている、「酒買い小僧」型が定番となっています。
