[He is said to have been so skilled that he was called "the greatest tea master in Japan" after Rikyu's death. Furuta Oribe, who also showed great talent in the field of art, is said to have produced a large number of Oribe ware, tea utensils. ~History of the checkered pattern The checkered pattern became widely known in the mid-Edo period. Ichimatsu Sanogawa, a kabuki actor, wore a white and navy blue checkered hakama in "Shinju Mannenso (The Heart of Takano Shinju)," and it became very popular among women. It was around that time that the name "checkered pattern" was coined. ~Meaning of the checkered pattern The checkered pattern is characterized by a pattern that continues uninterruptedly up, down, left, and right.
