Tekijuku Kinenkai Ogata Koan Complete Works Editorial Committee, ed.

Contains a part of his works with commentary, following "Waka and Calligraphy" and "Fugi Jiken Ikeikon" in Volumes I and II.

[Waka]Tomio Ogata [Biography of Ogata Koan] (Iwanami Shoten, first published in 1942, second edition in 1963) has long introduced that Ogata Koan left many waka poems and wrote many tanka poems. In the second and enlarged edition of the same book published in 1977, Ogata included a chapter titled "Ogata Koan Poetry Anthology," which contained 475 tanka poems and 18 poems by Koan. This is a collection of manuscripts [Haru no maki], [Natsu no maki], [Koi no maki], [Eisou], and tanka (tanka poems) handed down in the Ogata family, and Mr. Nobutsuna Sasaki was asked to select and organize the poems. However, [Ogata Koan Koshu] includes some waka poems that he altered in the process of compiling them as a collection of poems. In addition, due to its nature as a collection of poems, it naturally does not reflect the polishing process that took place when the poems were composed.
Therefore, in this volume, the above-mentioned waka manuscripts have been carefully examined again and reprinted to reproduce the reality of the original documents as much as possible, down to the points of agreement, revisions of words and phrases, and corrections. In addition, we have reprinted waka poems found after the publication of "Biography of Ogata Koan, Second Edition, Enlarged Version" and waka poems that had not been reprinted before, as well as waka poems that were previously known, by conducting a research of their holdings again and reprinting them as closely as possible to the original documents. This volume contains 813 tanka poems and 19 poems. This enables us to trace Koan's activities and relationships through waka poetry more chronologically and concretely than ever before.

[The number of Chinese calligraphy works written by Ogata Koan is not easy to ascertain, but the total number of his writings is not easy to grasp. Although it is not easy to ascertain the total number of his writings, and there are still many unknown points, we have included photographs of the original documents for each of the 14 pieces of writing that we have been able to ascertain, and have listed them in the order of exegesis, seal, kunyomi, glossary, modern translation, and remarks. Many of these calligraphic works were written and given to his descendants and students as an indication of the attitude of a person involved in medicine, and are of great importance in understanding Koan's thought* and beliefs.

[Among them, this volume contains "Buji iyi kaiyohi no kyokai," which is a translation by Hong-an of "Duties of a Physician" at the end of German physician Huferant's book "Igakuhitateki" (Essentials of Medicine), "Tetsusai yakushitsu jiaozu fang," which is a collection of prescriptions for medicine, "Tetsusai yakushitsu jiaozu fang," which is a book for treating infectious diseases, and "Tetsusai yakushitsu jiaozu fang," a book on the treatment of cholera, which was written by Hong-an for his pupils. A collection of medicine prescriptions [適々斎薬室膠柱方], [家塾虎狼痢治則], [袖珍内外方叢], [遠西医方名物考補遺], [西洋新旧度量比較表], [欧西新量比較表], a bilingual dictionary in Dutch and Latin related to medicine [医薬術語集] [涅尓独乙亜波底幾薬剤羅], a translation of a Western medical book [袖珍内外方叢], and a translation of a Dutch-Latin dictionary [尓独乙亜波底幾薬剤羅], a translation of a Dutch-Latin dictionary related to medicines. The collection contains eight works in total.
