| This border shirt is used by the Russian military. It is sometimes also called a [ternyashka]. It has a very long history, dating back to at least the 1870s. The current design was established in the 1910s, when it was introduced into the Russian Navy as [fufaika], which refers to underwear. Throughout the two world wars and the Cold War, minor differences in fabric * cutting * sewing, etc. were seen, and in the 1960s, short sleeves and tank tops were also introduced. It was employed in various forms over the years. Since the 2000s, the color of the border has come to represent each military type, with black for the Navy, blue for the Airborne Forces, red for the Ministry of the Interior *Domestic Forces, and other variations such as green (Border Patrol) and orange (Ministry of Emergency Situations) also exist. The fabric is made of comfortable cotton and is a versatile item that can be incorporated into a variety of styles. |
