Description
Shinya Ueda Vietnam in the 17th and 18th centuries was a period of military rule, with the Zheng clan in the north and the Guangnan Ruan clan in the central and southern regions. This book uses inscriptions and village documents to reveal the whole picture of early modern Vietnamese state institutions and society, which had been unexplained by conventional research based on official documents, and to depict the transformation from a strongly frontier Southeast Asian society to an East Asian society where strong social groups with closed and fixed memberships were distributed. This project will paint a portrait of early modern Vietnam. |
