通常のルチルの結晶は、鉄を含んでいて黄色くなりますが、結晶自体の反射率が高い事から金色に輝いて見えます。また、鉄の混入が多くなるほど褐色色が増し、次第に赤くなっていきます。赤くなる要因は、少量のマンガンの影響している様です。
