Description
Daniel, a sixth grader, visited his grandmother Anna to hear her stories about the war years. ---- During World War II, 12-year-old Anna escaped the persecution of Jews in Germany and was evacuated to England on the Kindertransport (an initiative in which families in England and other countries accepted Jewish children). She was evacuated to England by [Kindertransport] (an activity in which families in England and other countries took in Jewish children). Just before the train departs, a young mother hands her a basket in a moment of confusion. Inside is a baby! Anna takes care of the child until they arrive in England. Anna arrives safely at her farm in the countryside. Worried about her parents in Germany, she tries to learn English and adjust to her new life with her foster parents. One day, she and her sisters find an injured soldier in a barn. He claims to be a British soldier, but Anna notices that he is mumbling in German. He was a German spy. Anna pretends to believe he is a British soldier, and while carrying water and food, he asks her to post a letter for him. Anna informs the British colonel, who spies on the man. Anna secretly follows the man, but she is caught and in trouble! ---- Daniel hears the story and comes up with a surprise gift for Anna's grandmother's birthday. This fiction film is full of tension, based on historical facts such as the persecution of Jews by the Nazis and the activities of the Kindertransport, which saved 10,000 children. |
