Description
Katsushika Hokusai Ukiyoe artist of the late Edo period. One of the representatives of Kasei culture. His masterpieces include "Fugaku Sanjurokkei (Thirty-six views of Mt. Fuji)" and "Hokusai Manga (Hokusai Manga)," and he is a world-renowned painter. He depicted all things in nature and produced more than 30,000 works during his lifetime. He was ambitious even as a young man, and his outstanding descriptive ability can be seen in his flesh-and-blood ukiyoe as well as in his prints. In addition, his discovery of new innovations in the art of yomihon (reading books)* illustrations, the many picture books he produced, including the Hokusai Manga, and his skill in drawing forms with his brush were all of great benefit to the diffusion of painting techniques and the education of the general public. Thirty-six views of Mt. [Fugaku Sanjurokkei (Thirty-six views of Mount Fuji) is a collection of Fuji prints by Katsushika Hokusai, published between 1831 and 1834 (Tempo 2-5). It is said to have started the trend known as Japonisme in Europe in the late 19th century and influenced artists such as Vuillard. Henri Rivière was inspired by this work and painted "36 Views of the Eiffel Tower. In addition, [Kanagawa Okinonamiura] was used as the cover of the score for [Sea (Debussy)] published in 1905.
