Kitagawa Utamaro (1753-1806) was an ukiyoe artist active in Japan during the Edo period (1603-1868), who gained popularity for his "beautiful women's large head paintings" such as "Women and Women in Ten Pieces" and "Women and Men in Ten Bodies," which he began to paint from 1790 to 1991.
