Description
Kuniyoshi Utagawa November 15, 1798 (January 1, 1798) - March 5, 1861 (April 14, 1861)) Ukiyoe artist of the late Edo period. He was called Ichiyusai Kuniyoshi from the beginning of Bunsei Era to the first year of Man'en Era. Later he was also called Saiyosha (mid-Bunsei Era), Asakuraro (early Tempo Era to the first year of Man'en Era), Yukigaya, and Senma. He was also known as Sesshin. He called himself "Utagawa," and his pen name was "Ryuen" (meaning "a poet's poet"). He was one of the leading ukiyoe artists of the late Edo period, and his abundance of imaginative ideas, novel designs, outlandish ideas, and assured drawing skills resulted in numerous works with a broad appeal that extended beyond the boundaries of ukiyoe. [Soma's Old Inner Palace] Around Koka 2-3 (1845-1846). Interviewed in the book [Zenchianbou Tadayoshi Den] by Santo Kyoden, published in Bunka 3 (1806). Princess Takiyasha (Princess May), the orphaned daughter of Taira no Masakado, along with her younger brother Taira no Ryomon, receives a mystical power from the spirit of a toad, Nekishibasen, who lives on Mount Tsukuba, and together they form a rebellion to follow their late father's wishes, using the ancient inner citadel of Soma, which was built by Masakado in imitation of his palace in Soma, Sashima County and then abandoned after a rebellion. In an attempt to defeat them, Mitsukuni Oyakutaro, a vassal of Minamoto no Yorinobu, engages in a battle with Princess Takiyasha's follower Araimaru, when a giant skeleton controlled by the princess breaks through a bamboo screen. The original depiction of a battle with hundreds of skeletons was adapted to one giant skeleton, and while it is customary to depict a single skeleton as part of a series of three paintings, Kuniyoshi's bold compositions are characterized by the fact that the skeleton fills the entire picture plane. The depiction of the skeletons is also quite accurate from a scholarly point of view, and it is believed that Kuniyoshi used Western anatomy books as references.
