From there, she gradually found work sewing napkins, aprons, and small bags. 「バッグができるまで」
現地では、プラスチックの家具などの廃材を溶かしてヒモ状にしたものを織っていきます。
本来ゴミとなるものが、美しい反物へと生まれ変わるのです。
そしてそれを受け取るのが、フェアトレードNGO「SASHA」の作り手です。
このバッグを作ってくれている一人、インドで暮らすシャバナナシムさん。
今や35名のワーカーをまとめるリーダーです。
しかしここまでの道は楽ではありませんでした。
若くして女手一つで、赤ちゃんを育てなければいけない環境に。
生活は苦しいもので、赤ちゃんのミルクもあげられない日もありました。
高校、大学の勉強をしながら、母に縫製を習い、家事と子育て、勉強の合間にはアルバイトをするという日々
そこからナプキンやエプロン、小さなバッグなど、少しずつ縫製の仕事を見つけたそうです。
また、コミュニティの女性が生活圏内を超えることを許されない社会の価値観に抗いながら、
自ら外へ飛び出し、仲間を集め、自分たちの工房を開くまでになりました。
彼女は、いつか自分の住んでいる周辺の女性たちも、彼女たち自身の目で世界を見られることを、信じています。
私たち誰もが、求めれば道は開けるということ、
自分自身を輝かせることができるということ。
シャバナさんは、そんな希望を私たちに与えてくれる人だと思います。
