Gender has been a constitutive principle of various societies at different times and in different regions. In other words, it acts as a force that creates structures by constructing the norms, values, and identities of the society, by defining modes of behavior, spaces for activities, and division of roles, and by being incorporated into laws and political and economic systems. What mechanisms are at work and how are societies formed?
