It is said that the origin of this product is that female workers at a mosquito net factory began sewing several pieces together and making them for their own use, out of wasteful waste of defective fabrics and leftover fabrics from cutting. At first, the fabric is stiff and taut because of the glue, but when the glue is removed with lukewarm water or hot water, the fabric shrinks surprisingly. The result is a soft, fluffy, and supple texture. It also has excellent water absorbency (1.3 times that of cotton), dries quickly, and is durable. It can be used in a variety of ways, such as as a hand towel, a vegetable drainer, and a dish towel. When it is worn out, it can be used as a kitchen cloth or a dust cloth. Kaya Cloth Dish Towel Cafe Time 4-Piece Set
日本で唯一残っている蚊帳(かや)産地奈良県で時間をかけて丁寧に織られた蚊帳生地の布巾に、和歌山県で刺繍やプリントを施した「かや生地ふきん」。
蚊帳を作る工場の女工さんたちが、不良生地や裁断の残りの余り生地をもったいないと何枚か合わせて縫製し、自分たちのために作り始めた事が誕生のきっかけといわれています。
最初は糊がついている為、硬くピンと張った状態ですが、ぬるま湯またはお水で糊を落としていただきますと驚くほど収縮します。
その分、柔らかくふんわり、そして、しなやかな風合いになります。吸水性も抜群(綿の1.3倍)で、乾きも早い、そして丈夫です。
お手拭きや、野菜の水切り、食器拭きなど使い方色々。
くたくたになったら台拭き、雑巾へ。永く使えるのが嬉しい。
