Description
*Traditional mud dyeing and indigo blue The beautiful blue of indigo is matched with traditional Indian patterns in this wonderful cloth. The simple pattern of the mud-dyed (dove-printed) fabric and its calm texture will never bore you. In the mud-dyeing process, a paste of mud, which prevents the fabric from being dyed, is applied to a wood block (wooden plate) with a pattern carved on it and pressed onto the cloth. Then, wheat hulls are sprinkled over the paste and onto the cloth. Then the wheat hulls will stick to the mud and dry in the sun. Then we soak them in the indigo dye solution, let them dry, and stamp them again with a wood block... This process is repeated over and over again until the indigo blue color is achieved. The history of this mud-dyeing process is said to have started around the 8th century near the village of Akola in India, and it is a process with a long history. *I visited a village where mud-dyed cloth using Indian indigo is produced (video) *About the workshop, the craftsmen, and the method of making Here is an article about the actual workshop where the products are made and the people who make them. We hope you will take a look at it from the link above. *Kantha Embroidery Finishing The fabric is indigo-dyed and mud-dyed, and finished with stitch embroidery (kantha embroidery). This fabric is truly filled with India. The history of Kantha dates back to the time when people were poor. In those days, cloth was a very precious commodity. The only way to make cloth was to weave it on a handloom, which was a time-consuming and labor-intensive process. People in the past had to work for months before they could afford cloth. Because it was a precious commodity, the people of India wanted to take good care of their cloth, which led to the creation of kantha embroidery. *Various uses for the cloth This cloth has beautiful shades of indigo and blue, and the handmade patterns of wood blocks are also very beautiful. It can be used not only as a handicraft fabric but also as a cover for interior decorations and as a decorative fabric in various places. It can be used for sofa covers, curtains, tablecloths, and many other purposes. The natural texture of the fabric makes it great for use as an original scarf or wall decoration. *Conveniently measured! This fabric has a calm and tasteful atmosphere that can be used for a variety of purposes depending on your ideas. It is sold in measured quantities, so you can purchase only the amount you need. *Please order in 1m increments. Basically, we will try our best to keep the pieces connected, but there are cases where we may have to send the pieces separately depending on the stock situation. If you would like your order to be sent in a connected state, please indicate so in the remarks column. *About the lengths that can be sent connected Due to the handmade production process, this cut fabric is made by dividing the fabric into certain lengths, and the maximum length that can be sent connected together is about 10 meters. Therefore, even if you order 15m, for example, the fabric may be divided into 8m + 7m. |
