Feature: HIDEKO ISE This 30-page special issue features Hideko Ise, a picture book artist who has been publishing her works on the theme of "Life". We will cover the process of creating her first picture book in 10 years, "Piano", and her trilogy of picture books on the theme of "Tree", "Uncle Lelieul", "A Man Like a Big Tree", and "Festival". It will also include original tableaus and unpublished sketches that were shown at his solo exhibition. The cover of the book is newly drawn by Mr. Ise. Special Feature: Akiko Miyakoshi Akiko Miyakoshi began creating picture books while still in college, and since her first picture book [Tai-fu ga kuru] was published in 2009, she has received worldwide acclaim, including the Japan Picture Book Award, the Bologna*Ragazzi Award Special Prize, and the New York Times*New York Public Library Picture Book Award. In 2018, her first book [Boku no Tabi], which was produced entirely in lithography, became a topic of conversation, and in 2023, her first illustrated children's story [Chiisana Togarinezumi] won the Shogakukan Children's Book Publication Culture Award. Although his materials and methods of expression have changed, the intensity of his emotionally moving depictions has only increased, and is nothing short of remarkable. In this special issue, we will introduce her work in the field of picture books and illustrations, as well as her studio in Nagano Prefecture, where she has recently moved to. Special Feature: Mamiko Yoshitani After winning an excellence award at the Pinpoint Picture Book Competition, she made her debut in 2018 with [Sora kara kita Koishi], and in recent years, her series of illustrated fairy tales [Tamago no hanashi] and [Fig no hanashi] have gained increasing popularity. [Egg no hanashi" won a gold medal at the Bratislava World Picture Book Original Drawing Exhibition, and has attracted so many readers that a capsule figure of the book was subsequently released. Each of his works has a unique view of the world and a story that becomes a habit once you read it, and the exquisite drawings that multiply the charm of the story are captivating. In this special issue, we will focus on the three picture books and two picture fairy tales mentioned above that have been published so far, as well as an interview with the artist that looks into his career to date and the background of his work. 絵本作家として「いのち」をテーマに作品を発表し続けている、いせひでこさんを30ページにわたって特集します。いせさんにとって10年ぶりとなる自作の創作絵本『ピアノ』の制作過程を取材するほか、「木」をテーマとして3部作絵本『ルリユールおじさん』『大きな木のような人』『まつり』を取り上げます。また個展にて展示したオリジナルのタブローや未公開のスケッチなども収録予定です。

特集 みやこしあきこ
大学在学中から絵本を作り始め、2009年に初めての絵本『たいふうがくる』を発表して以来、これまでに日本絵本大賞、ボローニャ・ラガッツィ賞特別賞、ニューヨークタイムズ・ニューヨーク公共図書館絵本賞など、世界中で高い評価を得てきたみやこしあきこさん。2018年には初めて全編リトグラフの手法で制作された『ぼくのたび』が話題になり、2023年には初の絵童話『ちいさなトガリネズミ』が小学館児童出版文化賞を受賞しました。
画材や表現方法が変われど、感情をゆさぶられる描写はますます強度を増し、目を見張るばかりです。本特集では自作絵本とイラストレーションの仕事を中心にご紹介し、近年移り住んだ長野県のアトリエでの制作の様子もお届けします。
特集 しおたにまみこ
ピンポイント絵本コンペで優秀賞を受賞したことをきっかけに、2018年『そらからきたこいし』でデビューし、近年絵童話のシリーズ『たまごのはなし』『いちじくのはなし』でますます人気を得ている絵本作家・しおたにまみこさん。
『たまごのはなし』はブラチスラバ世界絵本原画展で金牌を受賞し、その後カプセルフィギュアが発売されるほど、数多くの読者を魅了。どの作品も1度読んだらつい癖になる独特な世界観、物語であることに加え、その魅力を倍増させる精緻な絵には、誰もが心奪われてしまいます。本特集ではこれまでに発表された3冊の絵本と先述の絵童話2冊を中心に、これまでの歩みや制作背景に迫るインタビューもご紹介します。
特集 牧野千穂
印象的なパステル画で、数多くの装丁をはじめとしたイラストレーションを手がけてきた牧野千穂さん。2011年に上梓した『うきわねこ』(蜂飼耳/文)は、「第4回MOE絵本屋さん大賞」で2位を獲得するなど、近年は絵本の作画でも注目を集め、たくさんの読者がその世界観に魅了されています。
今回は、2023年12月刊行の『おやすみまくら』(斉藤倫/文)を含む6冊の絵本を紹介するほか、インタビューではイラストレーションと絵本、それぞれの取り組みについてお聞きします。
