Description
| This brooch is hand-knitted with a traditional Turkish handicraft [oya] motif. [Oya is a traditional handicraft unique to the Mediterranean region of Turkey.] A traditional handicraft unique to the Mediterranean region of Turkey, it has developed as a fringe decoration for the scarves that women wear on their heads. The motifs used to decorate the scarf vary from two-dimensional flowers and vegetables to three-dimensional models, and women have been making them with their own original ideas and ingenuity. In recent years, the culture of handicrafts, not only scarf decorations, has been attracting attention, and new works using oyas as motifs are being created. (In addition to tu*oja, which are knitted with a crochet hook, there are also eeneoja with embroidery needles and bonjuk*oja with beads, each of which is distinguished from the other.) ⇒ ⇒ Turkish Lace Knitting Oya List |
