政府は彼らの功績を顕彰し、伝統的な文化遺産を保護するため、
1973年に『伝統工芸士』の称号を創設しました。
更に日本伝統工芸士会が設立され、
伝統工芸士を管理・認定する職権を行使しており、
登録済みの常滑焼の伝統工芸士は36人を数えます。
