篆刻とは、印を刻ることを指しますが、
芋版や実用印などとは異なり、
「文字表現」の場であり、
崇高な美意識が働いています。
この美意識とリンクする篆刻の楽しみは大きく分けて
3つあると私は思います。
まず、文字を構成する楽しみです。
篆刻で扱う篆書は、象形文字の要素が強く、
バラエティに富んだ書体です。
印の中に文字をどのように収めるか、
さまざまな形の字を参考にし、
自由な造型感覚を駆使しながら
適した形を模索します。
その中で、小さな四角の中に美意識を凝縮させる
楽しみを実感できます。

平面に字を書く以上に人をのめり込ませるものです。
