| *Shikishi [National Treasure, The Tale of Genji Picture Scroll, Goho] *Heian dynasty, Goto Museum of Art Heian period, Collection of Gotoh Museum of Art [This is a part of "Goho" from "The Tale of Genji", known as "Goshima version". The Tale of Genji" is a well-known masterpiece of Japanese literature. [The Tale of Genji Picture Scroll is the oldest extant picture scroll in Japan. It is known that a little more than three scrolls were handed down to the Owari Tokugawa family and a little less than one scroll to the Awa Hachisuka family during the Edo period (1603-1868). The Awa Hachisuka family's copy was later leaked to the city and is now housed at the Goto Museum of Art, where it is generally referred to as the "Goto" version.
