| *Shikishi [National Treasure, Illustrated Words and Phrases from the Diary of Murasaki Shikibu]* Kamakura period, Gotoh Museum of Art collection [The Murasaki Shikibu Diary is a masterpiece of diary literature in which Murasaki Shikibu, the author of The Tale of Genji and a servant to Emperor Ichijo's wife Akiko, vividly depicted the then powerful Fujiwara no Michinaga and the Heian aristocracy. The Murasaki Shikibu Diary was later made into a picture scroll in the early Kamakura period (1192-1333).
