Kamakura period, Gotoh Museum of Art collection [The Murasaki Shikibu Diary is a masterpiece of diary literature in which Murasaki Shikibu, the author of The Tale of Genji and a servant of Akiko, the middle consort of Emperor Ichijo, vividly depicts the powerful Fujiwara no Michinaga and the Heian aristocracy of the time. The Murasaki Shikibu Diary was later made into a picture scroll in the early Kamakura period (1192-1333).
