| A fountain pen made of pear wood, the same wood used for Sumi ink. The wooden form, which is the lifeblood of an ink shop, is made of pear. The ink balls, which are kneaded with soot, glue, and perfume, contain a lot of water. Pear wood, which is so hard and easy to carve that it does not deviate in dimension even if it absorbs a certain amount of water, has traditionally been chosen as the wooden model.
