Description
| Edited by Shigeru Akita, Masaharu Arakawa, Asako Kurihara, Akihiro Sakajiri, Shiro Momoki World History for You, Creating the Civil Society of the Future This is a revised edition of the popular "World History for Citizens", a groundbreaking history textbook that eliminates names of people and chronological periods as much as possible, and has been well received. Although the importance of studying history is widely recognized, history classes have been considered by many students to be little more than rote memorization of facts already known to them, influenced by entrance exam systems and curricula that tend to focus on confirming detailed knowledge. The previous book is a world history textbook produced in 2014 in cooperation with history researchers and high school history teachers from across Japan to break through this situation and to let students know the significance and interest of learning history. Ten years after its publication, against the backdrop of drastic changes in world affairs, progress in historical research, and the implementation of a new high school curriculum, including the introduction of a comprehensive history course, we have decided to publish a new edition with significantly updated descriptions. This book retains the features of the previous edition, such as "a broad overview of the structure of world history" and "understanding causal relationships and backgrounds of events, *Numerous new illustrations and new materials (with links to the web using the QR code system) are included. *Numerous questions are included to lead to a deeper understanding of the subject through generalization and abstraction, rather than individual memorization. *New authors have been added to further enhance the columns and other explanations. The book is intended to be a history textbook for citizens living in the present time. This is a definitive edition of a new world history textbook that will be useful not only for readers [who do not know much about history], but also for [history buffs] to develop a bird's-eye view of the whole picture. |
