「コットンの仕分け〜循環するものづくり〜」
その一つの行程として大切になるのが、オーガニックコットン「ジニングミル」というコットンを綿と種に仕分ける工場。
ここの人々は、コットン農家の人々をサポートするための非営利組織として働いています。
農家とのコミュニケーションは密なもので、農家さんの代わりにインド政府に種購入の補助金を申請したり、収穫ができたら畑まで直接トラックで受け取りにいくのだと教えてくれました。
コットン収穫前のタイミングに農家さんに一部を前払いをし、収穫後に残りを支払うという形をとることで、生産者の安定した生活を支えています。
小さな農家の人々が自ら補助金などの制度にアクセスすることは難しく、 自分たちが大事な役割を担っているんだと話されていました。
ただコットンの値段は、農家の人々との交渉で決めます。
支援しているだけじゃなく、お互いがよりよく生活をしていくためにフェアな立場で意見を交わし合う。
